Data Analyst/Data Technician Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Salary: Up to £55,000 depending on experience

We are seeking Subject Matter Experts to join our end point assessment organisation (EPAO). The role primarily involves assessing and quality assuring apprentices on the level 4 Data Analyst and level 3 Data Technician apprenticeship standards, as well as acting as a mentor to other independent end point assessors (IEPAs) and subject matter expert to the head office team. Therefore the SME will be required to work across all areas of the business.

Applicants must have experience working as an end point assessor/IEPA and quality assurer, a quality assurance qualification, and substantial industry experience.

This role can be worked remotely, with assessment taking place by video call. It can be worked from anywhere in the UK with a strong internet connection. Assessments take different forms and include either scenario demonstrations with questioning or a project presentation with questioning, followed by a professional discussion based on a portfolio of evidence.

The job duties include:

  • Scheduling/managing assessments on our software, in a timely manner.
  • Reviewing assessment evidence (e.g. portfolio, project) and preparing for EPA.
  • Carrying out EPA by video call. Apply reasonable adjustments where granted.
  • Awarding grades using a defined assessment plan and marking criteria.
  • Making sound judgements about the standard of the apprentice’s knowledge and competence, arriving at an overall grade, and recording your justifications for the quality assurer, following clear processes.
  • Providing robust feedback to the apprentice, following processes.
  • Quality assurance duties: Reviewing assessors’ decisions and justifications for end point assessment; Confirming final grading; Providing feedback on assessment quality, processes and procedures; Logging results, following set company processes; Following up actions given to assessors, where necessary.
  • Contributing to and attending two standardisation meetings per year.
  • Maintaining appropriate standard competency and knowledge CPD.
  • Mentoring of assessors, including being involved in the recruitment and training of new assessors.
  • Carrying out ad-hoc internal standardisation training to other data assessors.

Capacity: The usual capacity for full time data assessors is 4 end point assessments per week. This includes all preparation, carrying out the assessment, writing up feedback and general admin, with time left to be spent on CPD and standardisation activities. For SMEs, this will usually include fewer assessments along with quality assurance and mentoring work. The capacity/balance will be altered in line with business needs.

 

The ideal candidate will have the following:

Essential

  • Experience carrying out end point assessment and making accurate assessment decisions.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ industry experience working in a field related to data technician/data analyst.
  • Assessor/IEPA experience.
  • Hold an assessor qualification, or be willing to work towards one. Assessor qualifications may include e.g. CAVA, TAQA, Award in Undertaking EPA, A1, or similar.
  • Quality assurance experience.
  • Hold a quality assurance qualification, or willing to work towards one (such as L4 TAQA/L4 CAVA/V1/D34).
  • Thorough knowledge of the Data Analyst and/or Data Technician standards and assessment plans.
  • Highly organised.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Reliable and trustworthy.
  • Able to schedule bookings and organise own time to prepare for assessments and quality assurance activities, and submit feedback to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Mentoring skills.
  • Able to maintain own CPD.

Desirable

  • A good understanding of apprenticeship standards and EPA
  • Prevent and safeguarding training
