1st for EPA offers People Professional End Point Assessment for the level 5 apprenticeship standard. People Professional is the latest version, v1.3, of the level 5 HR apprenticeship. What does the People Professional EPA involve?
The end point assessment, or EPA, for the People Professional standard has three elements. These are:
- Presentation and questioning
- Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
- Assignment for unit 5CO03, which forms part of the Associate Diploma in People Management
EPA 1: Presentation and questioning
Apprentices will decide a topic at gateway, with support from the provider and employer. A scoping brief will be signed off by 1st for EPA. The presentation must cover a summary of the apprentice’s role as a people professional and what they do. It should focus on how they tackle a specific problem, idea or opportunity.
The presentation should last around 20 minutes and the questioning will last around 30 minutes.
EPA 2: Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
The professional discussion is a one-to-one discussion between the apprentice and an assessor. It will last for 75 minutes. The portfolio of evidence will be submitted at gateway. Apprentices will be able to refer to this and use its examples to illustrate their answers in the discussion.
EPA 3: Assignment for unit 5CO03
This assignment will be completed after gateway and will be the final part of completing the Associate Diploma in People Management.

Remote EPA for People Professional
1st for EPA carries out remote end point assessment for the People Professional standard. We work with apprentices throughout England and offer flexible scheduling, both in office hours and out of hours.
People Professional EPA Timescales
The EPA period for this standard is typically 3 months. Throughout the course of these 3 months, apprentices will be required to complete the final unit of their Diploma, unit 5CO03, while also creating their EPA presentation and preparing for the professional discussion.

People Professional EPA Guidance
We provide an Apprentice Toolkit and full guidance for EPA. We also run a training provider onboarding session and regular webinars for employers and providers.
How does EPA work?
The training provider recommends an EPAO, often with input from the employer.
The training provider registers the apprentice with the EPAO, giving an expected date for EPA.
The apprentice completes Gateway and schedules their EPA.
1st for EPA provides full support and guidance to help the apprentice prepare for EPA.
EPA is carried out with a qualified assessor.
1st for EPA carries out quality checks, then emails the apprentice their results and claims their completion certificate from the ESFA.
How much does People Professional EPA cost?
The EPA fee for People Professional is £1,750.
