What does EPA involve for HR Consultant/Partner?
An end point assessment for the HR consultant apprenticeship standard has two elements. These include;
- Consultative Project
- Professional Discussion
EPA 1: The Consultative Project
The Consultative Project must be a real piece of work done by the apprentice in their role. They will be required to write a project demonstrating how they have applied their knowledge and skills, as described in the assessment criteria.
The project should describe a situation where the apprentice successfully worked with a customer to deliver a specific piece of HR work or provide an HR solution(s) for them. As standard, the project should be around 5000 words with a 10% variance allowed. 1st for EPA provides full guidance and resources for all apprentices to successfully complete this task.
EPA 2: The Professional Discussion
The Professional Discussion takes the format of a series of questions to assess your skills and behaviours. It takes place after the Consultative Project has been completed and assessed.
The Professional Discussion lasts 60-75 minutes and will be carried out by recorded video call.
Full guidance and resources will be provided by 1st for EPA.

The HR consultant role requires a sound knowledge of HR management as the job can be very adaptive, requiring the professional to think on their feet as they are pulled in to advise on various needs. As such, the day-to-day duties of an HR consultant can vary massively.
However, HR consultants can be expected to deal with the following:
- Prepare and maintain reports and presentations regarding HR projects.
- Advise on the management and administration of HR policies and procedures.

What qualifications do I need to be an HR Consultant?
The role of an HR consultant does not require any specific qualifications; however, extensive knowledge of the field and human resources management is essential.
We are working together to offer HR consultant apprenticeships, which can be completed in two to three years to meet the HR level 5 apprenticeship standard. Completing an HR consultant apprenticeship will ensure candidates are equipped with the knowledge, skills and first-hand experience needed to enter the role as a professional.
