What does HR Support EPA involve?

Our end point assessment for the HR support apprenticeship standard is comprised of two components:

  1. Consultative Project
  2. Professional Discussion

EPA 1: The Consultative Project

As part of the HR support apprenticeship standard, each candidate must create a consultative project demonstrating work done by the apprentice in their role. They will be required to write a project that demonstrates how they have applied their knowledge and HRrelated skills to deliver the services required by the role, as described in the apprenticeship standard.

The project should describe a situation where the apprentice has successfully worked with a customer (probably an internal one) to deliver a specific piece of HR work or provide an HR solution(s) for them.

The project should be around 3000 words with a 10% variance on either side. However, full guidance and resources will be provided by 1st for EPA.

EPA 2: The Professional Discussion

The Professional Discussion takes the format of a series of questions to assess the apprentice’s skills and behaviours against the HR Support apprenticeship standard. It takes place after the Consultative Project has been completed and assessed. Full guidance and resources will be provided by 1st for EPA.

The Professional Discussion lasts between sixty and seventy-five minutes.

What is included in the role of HR Support?

The role of HR support is massively varied, but it is essentially their duty to provide support as a whole to the business, team or organisation. This support could come in the form of assisting with payroll processing, the hiring process, or even relationship management across employees, ensuring everyone is happy in the team.
With an HR support apprenticeship standard, a successful apprentice can look forward to an exciting career in human resources by learning adaptive skills that can be applied to any HR role or industry.

Why is end point assessment important?

End point assessment is a vital part of an apprentice’s journey. It is the final test that assesses whether they have learned the necessary skills to be competent in their role. The apprentice must display enough skill and understanding from their time in training to be able to show their competence in a fully formed HR support role.

How does EPA work?

  • The training provider recommends an EPAO, often with input from the employer.

  • The training provider registers the apprentice with the EPAO, giving an expected date for EPA.

  • The apprentice completes Gateway and schedules their EPA.

  • 1st for EPA provides full support and guidance to help the apprentice prepare for EPA.

  • EPA is carried out with a qualified assessor.

  • 1st for EPA carries out quality checks, then emails the apprentice their results and claims their completion certificate from the ESFA.

What does EPA cost for HR Support?

Our EPA for the HR Support apprenticeship standard is £875.

If a re-sit is needed, this is charged at £320 for either the Consultative Project or Professional Discussion. However, if a re-take is needed, this is charged at the full fee of £875. You can learn the difference between a resit and a re-take using our guide.
